1.     CONDUCT GRADING PROCEDURE:  Each student will begin the six weeks with an “S” in citizenship

S = Satisfactory Behavior:  cooperative, minimal (or no) discipline issues, responsibilities are usually fulfilled

N = Needs Improvement:  pattern of misbehavior observed (frequent disruptions in class, lack of materials in class, etc.), responsibilities not fulfilled

U = Unsatisfactory Behavior:  cheating, severe or constant misbehavior, office visits, and truancy

2.     HOMEWORK:  Homework will be assigned if it is beneficial to the class.  Amounts of homework vary from class to class.  Homework assignments should be completed and ready to hand in at the beginning of class. Late work may or may not be accepted in accordance with each teacher's policies.

3.     RESTROOMS:  Use the restroom between classes.  Students with no passes in their agendas will NOT be allowed to use the restroom during class.

4.     CLASS DISMISSAL:  At the end of class, the teacher dismisses students.  Bells are only a signal for the teacher.

5.     BOOKS:  Textbooks should be covered at all times.  At the end of the school year, students are fined for damage to their books.  A properly covered book will prevent many of these damage fines.

6.     AGENDA:  An agenda will be REQUIRED for each student.  Students MUST bring agenda to each class.  Agendas will serve as hall passes for students as well as a record of assignments and important events.  The agenda must be replaced if lost at a cost of $1.00.  Parents should check agendas regularly in order to help their students with their studies.

7.     GUM/CANDY:  Candy and other food materials are not allowed in the classroom unless given out by the teacher.

GUM IS PROHIBITED BY SCHOOL RULES!!!  NO EXCEPTIONS!!!

8.     BACKPACKS/GYM BAGS:  Backpacks MUST remain in the student’s locker and will NOT be allowed in class.

9.     STUDENT ID’S:  ID’s must be VISIBLE on the upper part of each student's body (around the neck, on the collar, etc.) at all times while on the Truman campus.  Disciplinary action will be taken against students who habitually do not have their ID.

10. TRUMAN HEADING:  Each paper turned in by students MUST have a complete heading and title (see example).  No more than 5 points will be deducted for improper techniques or not following other directions (i.e. not using pencil when instructed to do so).

11. MAKE-UP WORK:  It is the responsibility of the student to check with the teacher for work missed due to absences upon returning to school.  According to district policy, the student has one class day for each day’s absence to make up the missing work.  If a student is absent on the day a previously assigned assignment is due, it is due the day the student returns to school.  THIS RULE WILL BE STRICTLY ENFORCED.

12. GRADING POLICIES:

DAILY GRADES:  Some teachers accept no late work and assign zeroes for missing work; two daily grades will be dropped at the end of the six weeks.   Others accept late papers with a twenty-point deduction; papers must be turned in within 3 days or the grade becomes a  zero.  When late work is accepted, no grades will be dropped.
(Late work = work not turned in on time. Make-up work = work not turned in on time because of an excused absence)

MAJOR GRADES:  Projects or long-term work must be turned in on the assigned due date.  Absences do not extend the deadline.  For each school day a major grade is late, ten late points are deducted from the grade.

CHEATING:  Copying someone else’s work is considered cheating.  The consequences for cheating are a zero (0) on the assignment as well as a “U” in citizenship for that six weeks for each student involved.  ** Please refer to the GPISD Grading Policy for grades 6-12 in the GPISD Middle School Handbook for additional clarification.

13. PROGRESS REPORTS:  Progress reports are issued during the fourth week of each grading period and reflect three-week averages.  These must be signed by parents and returned to the issuing teacher within 2 days.

14. REPORT CARDS:  Report cards are issued at the end of each 6-week period.  These, too, need to be signed and returned to the 5th period teacher within 2 days after being received by the student.
